Expert Witness Reports

Reports are provided when actuarial advice is appropriate. These may be, for example, in the following typical situations.

Mortality:
The life expectancy of the claimant is uncertain. Examining physicians can give opinions based on their personal experience of similar patients, but these are often not soundly based on published research. Reports can be provided that apply the physicians' opinions to the published research to give the Court a full appraisal of the claimant's potential life expectancy together with an appraisal of the uncertainties attaching to the claimant's particular circumstances.Typical injuries for which reports are supplied are cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and matters relating to lifestyle, such as obesity, alcohol or drug (mis)use, and smoking.

Mathematical:
Sometimes the Schedule is sufficiently complicated that determinination of the Ogden multipliers (even with our calculator) is sufficiently taxing that independent advice is necessary.

Miscellaneous:
Other situations defy categorisation. Reports have been provided in several different situations, such as for example the operation of trust documents and the implications of insurer reserve calculations.

If in doubt, please ask. If we feel that it is inappropriate to instruct us then we will say so and explain why.
